Short Gilraen poem

2026-08-21T08:45:15Z

Title: Upon a Memorial Tablet for Gilraen in Rivendell
Characters: Gilraen
Rating: PG
Warnings: allusions to mortality
Word Count: 26

Summary: Gilraen was a guest in Rivendell for long years. She was also a Mortal among Elves. One of the Elvish names for Mortals is "Guests". The text on this memorial tablet was, I think, written by an Elvish friend of Gilraen's after her death; it's the reader's choice to decide who the author is. I imagine that memorial tablet as also being incised with a line drawing of Gilraen in profile.

Alliterative Verse in Arda

2026-07-26T18:23:55Z

Alliterative Verse in Arda, which is Forgotten Ground Regained Issue 11, is now out!
https://alliteration.net/new-series-issue-11-summer-2026/

This issue of the magazine devoted to modern alliterative verse edited by Paul D. Deane (it is available online and as PDF) includes new and selected poems in alliterative verse set in or addressing the Legendarium.

Some of the names are very familiar (one by Dawn, three by Zdenka, a testimony to her metrical skill, and Paul Deane is fannishly known as Rhunedhel), others less so.

My own contribution about Earendil and Elwing (from a challenge back in 2022) is paired with artwork by Silmalope, who kindly gave permission:
https://alliteration.net/poetry/earendil-the-seafarer/
I also received kind permission from Anerea for her sketch of Auntie (the Sindarin OFC) to appear in lieu of an author pic or avatar on my online author page:

Follow-up drabble on the subject of insects and war and children's rhymes

2026-06-28T20:35:59Z

I have now written a related drabble for the prompt "The World on Fire", which had partly inspired that earlier take on the German children's song, I think.
I used the related English nursery rhyme discussed in the Tumblr post for the drabble.

An Early Loremaster

Early in the history of Numenor, Elros's son Vardamir not only gathers much lore himself, but also assembles an early circle of loremasters around him. One of these is Tegilbor, who reflects about lore, Elvish and otherwise.
