This clearly has quite a lot to do with how short the days still are. Darkness still falls almost mid afternoon, although we are a fortnight past the solstice.

A drabble sequence on Brandir of Brethil and his family.
Written for the prompt sequence "Celebrate" at Tolkien Weekly, but despite this somewhat dark in parts.
The drabbles are here given in the chronological sequence of the events described.
(I may perhaps expand the sequence later to get a more satisfactory arc.)

Characters: Brandir the Lame, healer and (later) Warden of Brethil; his paternal grandmother Gloredhel (House of Hador); his mother Beldis (House of Beor); his elder cousin Hunleth; his younger cousin Hunthor; Dorlas of Brethil; Finduilas of Nargothrond; Turin, son of Hurin (the Mormegil).
Rating: PG13
Warnings: canonical character deaths, allusion to Gwindor's sufferings in Angband and other mature themes.

It seems I am not about to continue this series right away.
As it's reached a temporary stopping point,  here are the drabbles in chronological order--rather than in the order I wrote them for the Tolkien Weekly Communication challenge, that is. (Some of them, but not all, are already posted to SWG.)

Characters/Pairing: Aerin, Brodda's sister (OFC), Morwen
Length: 8 true rabbles (2 drabble pairs)
Rating: PG13
Warnings: Non-graphic references to non-con, death in battle, orcs being orcs, etc.
Summary: The story of Aerin of the House of Hador and Broddun of the Easterlings, Brodda's sister.
After the crushing defeat of the Edain in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, the Easterlings have occupied Dor-lomin and Brodda has taken Aerin to wife by force. Aerin and Broddun find ways of dealing with it and with each other.
