Belated fill for a Tolkien Weekly challenge, which I had been thinking about at the time, but did not manage to write.
I suppose, in some fashion, a coda to Such Great Deeds, which features Mablung and alludes to the wolf-hunting scene from Beleg's POV.

ETA: This had a couple of the kind of errors in it that happen when you try and write fic in the early hours of the morning. I think I've caught them now, but if you spot any that I overlooked let me know, please. I should post more slowly, really, rather than editing online, but sometimes I need to hurry to escape my inner censor who is doing his best to cut me off.

Nec Hercules... right?

Very poignant and heart-breaking. In the end, he was alone.

I agree, there might have been others there, like Celeborn, that survived, but in the middle of the carnage... I have this creeping feeling that he was alone and that the dwarves swarmed into the treasury and just chopped him with their axes. Without Melian and the girdle, and with the captains wandering purposeless, the old Doriath soldier couldn't do more, I guess.

Yes, I did write about Mablung dealing with the whole mess that the Silmaril had caused. My, thank you that you remember! And you know what, I looked at my stories at the SWG and this particular one is ten years old! Time flies.

You're most welcome. It was a very touching story. It made me kind of frozen with sadness, but also made me look into the Silm again, which is always good for me.
