LJ issues

There are stories going round that on LJ journals and comms have been suspended and deleted without warning for including links in their posts to sites outside LJ.
If this happens, apparently it is possible to get the suspension revoked, if you immediately contact LJ support and explain that you are not a spambot. However, apparently there have been occasions when this appeal has failed, too. I don't know the particulars.
I myself had a cross-post from DW to my LJ journal blocked recently as spam because it contained an external link. I think it was a link to the SWG Archive.
I don't think it can be links to all external sites that are targeted--the algorithm they are using must have some kind of whitelist, but it is clearly worryingly short and the results do not seem to be vetted by humans, unless you appeal.
The reason I think they may be using a whitelist, although a very inadequate whitelist, is that in the cross-posts links to AO3 have been going through okay (as have the standard links to DW). But clearly the suspensions are hitting even links to big and well-known sites.
It would also be rash to assume that links to AO3 cannot be targeted, as there appears to be no information how the algorithm really works.
So far it looks as if the algorithm reacts equally to links in locked posts as well as public posts, which seems rather ridiculous. Who ever heard of a spambot locking their posts?
